Bio::Neos Announces Upcoming Release of Bio::POD

October 14th, 2005

Bio::Neos, Inc. announces the release of Bio::POD, a new software solution that will be available Q4 2005. Bio::POD, or Prioritized Oligo Design, is intended for researchers performing mutation identification or sequence variation screening. The system automates and simplifies common tasks including the aggregation of genomic data from multiple resources and designing oligonucleotides for PCR assays. Bio::POD improves the efficiency of screening projects sevenfold with a unique prioritization algorithm designed to maximize the use of resources by prioritizing the search for genetic variations.

A prototype of Bio::POD has been developed at the University of Iowa and tested since 2002 by Dr. Edwin Stone, an inherited eye disease specialist and director of the Center for Macular Degeneration. When asked about Bio::Neos and the prototype system developed for his research lab, Dr. Stone commented, "I am extremely pleased that a company has been formed to enable the software developed internally for a single university to be further refined for a wider audience of researchers. This software is absolutely essential to the gene discovery work that we are now performing."

Bio::POD is one of a series of software solutions developed by Bio::Neos, a bioinformatics software company based in Iowa City, IA. Incorporated in January of 2004, Bio::Neos is owned and operated by a group of research scientists and engineers with diverse professional backgrounds in computer technology, genetics, and biology.
